Midcoast Maine Community Action (MMCA), a human services agency, is seeking qualified applicants for the following positions.

PRESIDENT/CEO SEARCH

The board of directors of Midcoast Maine Community Action (MMCA) seeks a proven executive to lead this longstanding human services agency as president/CEO. Headquartered in Bath and serving low-income and other at-risk individuals in multiple counties, MMCA is a vital provider of essential services, a leading voice for those most vulnerable, and a key partner in economic and community development. With an active board that reflects the diversity of Maine’s Midcoast and a dedicated staff, the new president/CEO will build on MMCA’s firm foundation to deepen its impact.

Organizational overview

The mission of Midcoast Maine Community Action is to empower individuals and families to gain the knowledge and skills to achieve self-sufficiency. The agency strives to connect the community with resources that promote health and quality of life, education and economic independence as a pathway to achieving full potential. MMCA supports regional activities that encourage economic sustainability and social equity.

The MMCA has three primary areas of focus:

1. Child and Family Services. MMCA operates seven Head Start centers that provide comprehensive education, health, nutrition, and parent involvement services at no cost to income-eligible children and their families in Lincoln, Sagadahoc and Northeastern Cumberland Counties. The organization also offers Early Head Start for families who are expecting a baby or have children aged 0-3, and other programs to address specific needs.

2. Community Services. MMCA administers WIC, a federally funded supplemental food and nutrition education program for eligible pregnant and post-partum women, infants, and children up to age five in northern Cumberland, Sagadahoc, Lincoln, Knox and Waldo Counties. It also provides coordinated housing assistance for homeless and at-risk individuals and families, along with fuel assistance for a portion of the region.

3. General Services. MMCA offers programs to strengthen community members’ financial health and security, including assistance in saving for the purchase of a significant asset (home, education, business), navigating the health insurance marketplace, and gaining access to essential utility service.

The agency has an FY18 budget of $8 million and employs 85 people. All central services and the Bath Head Start Center are housed in a state-of-the art facility on Wing Farm Road in Bath, owned by MMCA and shared by the United Way of Midcoast Maine and other community-based organizations. The board of directors has identified the following organizational priorities to guide the new president/CEO:

Position requirements

Compensation

MMCA’s new president/CEO will earn a comprehensive benefits package and competitive salary commensurate with experience.

This position reports directly to the board of directors. The successful candidate can expect a formal review after six months as well as an annual review.

Head Start Case Manager – Bath

Responsibilities include recruiting eligible children; helping families to identify family goals, strengths, and coordinating resources; assisting parents in developing parent committees, attending meetings. Applicants must have considerable knowledge of social services available to low-income families; demonstrated ability to work in crisis situations; ability to work independently and as a team member; effective communication skills; must have driver’s license and reliable vehicle. Bachelor Degree in Social Work or related field is required. Position is 37.5 hours per week.

Early Head Start Home Visitor – Bath

Responsible for providing a home-based Head Start program to pregnant women, parents and children birth to age three. Weekly home visits with families to deliver developmentally appropriate learning activities, education about health, nutrition and child development. Work with other team members to offer twice monthly socialization experiences for families. Assist families to achieve personal and family goals, identifying appropriate services and support. Maintain accurate and professional records. The position requires flexibility, good organizational skills and understanding of poverty. Qualified applicants must have a minimum of a home based CDA credential or comparable credential or equivalent course work as part of an associate or bachelor degree. Position is 37.5 hours per week.

HEAD START

                            DISABILITIES & MENTAL HEALTH COORDINATOR

 

MMCA, a large mid-coast human service agency, is currently seeking qualified applicants for the above position within our Early Head Start/Head Start Program.  Responsible for the planning, administration, implementation, and day-to-day management of the disabilities and mental health content areas. Collaborates with CDS and refers children who may need services. When they have been diagnosed, the coordinator monitors IEP development and the provision of services.  Supports teachers to integrate children with disabilities and mental health concerns into Head Start classrooms.  Coordinates with Mental Health Consultants to support children, parents and staff when children have behavioral or emotional difficulties.  Assists in maintaining individual records for Head Start children.  Qualifications:  Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Development or a closely related field; Master’s Degree in Education preferred with experience in Special Education.  Maine 282 certification strongly preferred.  Demonstrated ability to work with computers and related software (word processing, spreadsheet applications required); experience with database applications preferred.  Excellent oral/written communication skills required.  Ability to work as part of a collaborative, multi-specialty team essential.  Ability to communicate and function with various professional and community groups required.  Position is based in Bath.  Travel is required.  Position is 37.5 hours per week.

 

HEAD START

HEALTH ASSISTANT

 

Midcoast Maine Community Action is looking for someone with proficiency in medical terminology to assist the Health Coordinator. The successful candidate will have an Associate Degree in Health/Medical Assistant or closely related field.  Comparable experience is also accepted. This person should also have experience and interest in child and family health care (Including, but not limited to, prevention, early intervention and health maintenance practices).  Other skills necessary include data entry, word processing database applications, and reporting; ability to communicate both orally and in writing with various community and professional groups; and the ability to organize and prioritize tasks. Candidate must also have a valid driver’s license, insurance and reliable transportation. Candidate must also successfully complete a State Bureau of Information and DHHS Child Protective Services record check prior to starting employment. In this position one must maintain client and agency confidentiality. Position is based in Bath.  Travel is required.  Position is 37.5 hours per week.

 

Hourly range is $11.80 – $18.48 based on experience.
