Head Start Program

Midcoast Maine Community Action (MMCA), a mid-coast human services agency, is seeking qualified applicants to fill anticipated openings in our Head Start (HS) program.  Our HS program provides a birth to five continuum of services encompassing education, family engagement, health, nutrition and disabilities content areas of the program.

Head Start Teacher – openings in Bath and Brunswick

This position is 35 hours per week, 34 weeks per year.

We use Opening the World of Learning (OWL) curriculum in our 3-5 year old classrooms, and Teaching Strategies Gold as our assessment system.  Orientation and training are provided in curriculum and all other aspects of pre-kindergarten programming.

Responsibilities and Qualifications:  All teaching staff work under the direct supervision of the HS Center Manager.  Teachers are responsible for planning and implementing the early childhood curriculum in classrooms, conducting child assessments, meeting with families, encouraging parent engagement in their children’s education, and working with the center team to ensure a smooth flow of daily activities and events.  Qualifications:  Applicants with an 081 certification will be given preference in public school collaboration classrooms.  An Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education or a closely related field is required.  Infant Toddler Child Development Associates or Pre-K Child Development Associates may be considered.

Teacher Assistant – Floater

This position is 30 hours per week, school year (48 weeks).

Responsibilities and Qualifications:  Participates in the supervision of classroom activities; assists in daily health/safety routines; supports integration of special needs activities with other classroom activities; prepares supplies and activities related to lesson plan; participates in a clean, safe, and health environment through routine maintenance and cleaning of classrooms, playground, and common areas; acts as substitute if a teacher is out of the classroom.  Qualifications:  Applicants must have high school diploma or equivalent, valid driver’s license and current auto insurance.  Travel is required.  Pay rate will be $10.50 per hour.

Head Start Nutrition Team Leader

Primary duties involve monitoring, oversight, support and liaison of the two family child care programs that MMCA’s program sponsors as part of our Child & Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) contract. Responsibilities include menu planning, arranging food deliveries, and the monitoring and oversight of up to 6 cook staff. The Nutrition Team Leader will train staff on CACFP requirements, ensure staff has adequate professional development and training, and partner with the education team to reinstate cook led healthy nutrition activities. All actions will be aligned to support the agency mission by ensuring all policies and procedures demonstrate integrity and ethical behavior. Local travel is required. This position is 37.5 hours per week.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have experience in an Early Childhood setting; Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience preferred; two (2) years working in USDA nutrition program or equivalent experience preferred; strong organizational and problem solving skills are required.

Pay is dependent on qualifications and experience and will range from $16.60 to $24.00 per hour.

Family Services Coordinator

Responsible for the overall planning, management and administration of the family services, parent involvement, recruiting/enrollment, and Early Head Start home-based components of the Head Start program, the Family Services Coordinator establishes and maintains outreach and recruitment process to ensure enrollment of eligible children, including those with special needs. Under general guidance from the program director, this position is responsible for the coordination of the implementation of home-based Head Start services. This positon takes the lead on conducting annual program self- and-community assessment as well as contributes to other project based work for the program.  Administrative and supervisory experience required.  Demonstrated ability to work with computers, analyze data and reporting required.  Responsible for the direct supervision of Case Managers and Home Visitors.  At least 3 years of experience in a related position.  Masters Degree in related area, MSW or LCSW preferred.  Salary is $32,370 – $48,750.

RN Consultant 

Midcoast Maine Community Action Head Start/Early Head Start (MMCA/HS/EHS) is seeking a per diem registered nurse with pediatric experience to serve as the Child Care Health Consultant (CCHC). The individual will have extensive understanding of child health, child development, and health and safety in child care and school settings. CCHC and the HS/EHS staff work together to promote healthy and safe environments for young children. The CCHC will have expert information, resources and referrals to offer. Through onsite and telephone consultation, the CCHC will work with MMCA/EHS/HS to help create an environment that best supports the healthy growth and development of young children.
